Ryujinx Amiibo Emulation Guide: Unlock Exclusive Content Without the Figures

If you’re a fan of Nintendo’s Amiibo figures, you probably know just how exciting it is to unlock exclusive in-game content with a simple scan. Whether it’s unlocking a special costume, extra items, or even unique characters, Amiibo is a neat little way to enhance your gaming experience. But what if you don’t have the physical Amiibo figures on hand? Don’t worry – you can still enjoy all the Amiibo benefits on your Ryujinx emulator.

In this guide, I’m going to walk you through how to emulate Amiibo functionality on Ryujinx so you can scan Amiibo and unlock all that exclusive content, without the need for the actual figures or cards. Let’s dive in!

What is Amiibo and Why Do You Need It?

Amiibo are interactive figures and cards developed by Nintendo, containing NFC chips that enable them to communicate with your Nintendo consoles, such as the Switch, Wii U, and 3DS. By scanning an Amiibo, you can unlock special features in compatible games—things like new characters, costumes, in-game items, and much more.

While it’s all fun and games with the physical figures, what if you don’t have them? This is where Amiibo emulation comes into play. You can still get the same in-game bonuses with Ryujinx, the Nintendo Switch emulator, by emulating Amiibo scans. You just need to set it up properly, and I’ll guide you through the process.

How to Use Amiibo on Ryujinx Emulator

Before we jump into the setup process, it’s important to note that the method for using Amiibo in Ryujinx has changed a bit over time. The automatic setup option previously available has been disabled, but don’t worry – there’s a manual method you can use that works perfectly fine. Let’s break it down:

1. Manual Method (Working)

Since the official Ryujinx Amiibo setup service is no longer available, you’ll need to manually place the Amiibo data in the right folder to get things working. Here’s what you need to do:

1. The first step is to download the amiibo.json file, which contains all the Amiibo data that Ryujinx will use. This file is essential for the emulator to recognize and scan Amiibo virtually.

2. Once you’ve got the amiibo.json file, navigate to your Ryujinx installation directory. You’ll need to place this file in a specific folder within Ryujinx:

Ryujinx > System > Amiibo

If the “Amiibo” folder doesn’t exist, simply create one. Then, drop the downloaded amiibo.json file into it.

That’s it! You’ve successfully set up Amiibo data for Ryujinx. The emulator will now recognize the Amiibo and allow you to use them just like you would with a physical figure or card.

2. Auto Setup (Defunct)

While the auto setup method was previously available, it is no longer working due to changes on the official Ryujinx domain. However, it’s still useful to know how it worked, so you can understand what to expect for future updates or changes to the emulator.

Under the auto setup method, all Amiibo could be virtually scanned within the emulator while connected to the internet, without needing any external files. The steps were as follows:

1. While playing a game that supports Amiibo (check out Amiibo Life for a list of supported games and the content unlocked), you would simply navigate to the designated Amiibo scanning area in the game.

2. Once you’re in the right spot, you could press or hold the correct button to enable the Amiibo scan prompt in the game.

3. Then, you’d go to the “Actions” menu in Ryujinx, click on “Scan an Amiibo,” and choose the Amiibo you want from the list of available figures and characters. The dropdown menus allowed you to select the specific Amiibo series and character you wanted to scan.

4. If the Amiibo had content for the game you were playing, it would instantly unlock in-game bonuses such as costumes, characters, and items.

Using Amiibo on Ryujinx is a great way to enhance your emulation experience, especially if you’re someone who loves collecting Amiibo figures but doesn’t always have them on hand. While the automatic setup option is no longer available, the manual setup method works just as well, letting you enjoy the same Amiibo perks without needing the physical figures.

By following the steps I’ve outlined, you should be able to seamlessly emulate Amiibo on Ryujinx, opening up new in-game content at your fingertips. Don’t let the lack of physical Amiibo stop you from experiencing everything they offer!
